I had been interested in the financial services industry since my childhood days. Hence, I majored in economics at Tokyo University, and then I got a job at a private bank after graduation. At the bank, some of my colleagues and clients inspired me with their experiences of studying and working abroad. As a result, I decided to quit my job and moved to the US.

In the US, I started in a program for MA in Economics and MBA. Several Game theory courses excited me more than management courses. Therefore, I decided to stay in the US after completing my master degrees so that I deeply studied Game theory in a PhD program and I pursued an academic career. Overall, I stayed for 11 years overseas (9 years in the US and 2 years in Italy) as a graduate student, a lecturer or a researcher.

In the early stages of my studies in the US, my English was not good. I spent much more time than my classmates for preparation. However, I always worked hard, and eventually I was able to write research papers and give presentations in academic seminars. Consequently, I got to build good relationships with my classmates and colleagues. I often went out with them to eat or watch sport games.

Studying abroad has many benefits. First, you can expand your horizons. Second, you can make friends with people from other countries. Third, you can learn English. On the other hand, international education is very costly. Furthermore, you may fail to enjoy the above-mentioned benefits.

Therefore, if you want to study abroad in the future, I recommend that you carefully prepare, for example, by going to English schools, joining English speaking circles, or searching for relevant information. Additionally, if you are able to explain Japanese culture and tradition to others well, you will be respected in classroom. If you become familiar with popular sports in the US, you will easily connect with local people.

There are a number of advantages of learning English. For instance, you may have a chance to study abroad. You will have access to variety of job opportunities including international ones. You can also find and read English articles or essays by yourself, which helps you broaden your knowledge and vision.

I wish you all the very best of luck and success in your English studies!
